Aqua BOOM! Kingsland, Tx

The Sausage Trailer had a busy 4th of July weekend! First, I would like to thank all of the brave people who were willing to try a sausage from a 4'x4' trailer. I would especially like to thank the people who came back up to 3 times, that was great!
Saturday started at 5:30 AM. The Sausage Trailer was prepped and filled to the brim with pork & beef sausage. I was headed to Packsaddle Elementary where children's activities and "wild west" shows were scheduled throughout the day. Upon arriving at the Packsaddle Elementary I was amazed at how many people will buy a sausage at 8 in the morning! One gentleman bought one, came back 5 minutes later and bought 4, then came back again and bought 2 more! In 10 minutes I surpassed my previous one-day sales record! Sad, I know.
The food vendors, all two of us, were given a pretty good spot in the grass by the entrance with a good view of the parade and fairly good exposure. The only other vendor served shaved ice and ice cream, so our menus complimented each other nicely. The rest of the day went very well. People seemed to come in bursts, there would suddenly be 10 people standing around ordering several sausages each, then there would be a drought, then another burst. People were pretty much gone by 5pm, so the shaved ice people and I decided it was time to call it a day.
Sunday, the 4th of July I worked the Kingsland Community Park where the poker run, boat parade, washer toss and horseshoe pitch were to take place. I started the morning down by the water, but had a rough time with sales because people were coming to register for the poker run and/or to launch their boats so they were not focused on food. I was convinced for a while that if only I had put a sign on The Sausage Trailer that said "Information", I probably would have sold more sausages! I had many people walk right past the giant tent and the sign that read "POKER RUN REGISTRATION", up to me and ask about the poker run! I even had a guy on a motorcycle lecture me about how a poker run is usually done on motorcycles and how it's crazy to have one for boats. Yes, I'm sure it's the guy selling sausages that makes these kinds of decisions! I was not allowed to sell drinks for some reason, so I had people asking for drinks all day. This one lady even got out of her car, asked me if I had bottled water she could have and when I said no, she have me a big, sarcastic 'two thumbs up' and a "wow, GREAT!" Haha! Sorry!
When I moved up to the horseshoe area, my luck turned around! I sold lots sausages and even learned what a washer toss is! I met several nice people there, some of them may even have a spot outside their store for me during the week! I was also visited a couple times by the dudes from the vacation house across the street who quickly named me "That Sausage Guy". I had a great time!
After restocking, I came back to the Community Park at about 5. I set up by the water again and sold sausages to the people waiting for the fireworks to start at 9. I had a lot of fun and even sold a sausage to Junior, a local who ate my first sausage ever!
When it got too dark to sell sausages, I packed up and got the truck ready just in time for the locals to start shooting off fireworks from the docks. Luckily, Texas is one of the few states where cool aerial fireworks are still allowed! While I was standing around, I was spotted by the dudes from across the street who yelled "Hey, Sausage Guy! Remember us? We bought some sausage from you earlier!" Yes, I did remember! They even invited me over to their vacation house to watch the city's fireworks show. It's great being a celebrity!
It was a great weekend, no robberies, no major fires and good revenue! Thanks to everyone who came out and to Debbie and the Camber of Commerce for organizing the event, I think everyone had a groovy time!

The Sausage Trailer is ready for action!

After a couple months (maybe more than a couple), The Sausage Trailer is rearin' to go!

The construction process took a long time, but I was rewarded with few mistakes and difficult setbacks. The Sausage Trailer is complete with a grill, a three-bay sink with a holding tank and water heater, a cooler for the sausages and its own deep-cycle battery. The cooking area itself is quite small- 48"x50", but I managed to fit everything in, including me!

The Sausage Trailer was scheduled to attend the Soapbox Race in Marble Falls on 6/19/10, but somehow lost out because some other jerk sausage-supplier stole my spot! I really don't know what the issue was, but I am still looking to fill this weekend's slot. Top contenders seem to be the Kingsland Community Park and boat launch or one of the many Beverage Barns in the area! I will post an update as soon as something is worked out.

Thanks for reading, I can't wait to write an interesting post about an actual event!
Stay tuned.
